The solution was to bite the bullet and use a brand-new state-of-the-art AirPort Extreme as a WiFi repeater/extender instead of simply another AirPort or old express. The Extreme has a much stronger signal than an Express, and powered-through any problems to give me rock-solid signal.
May 01, 2013 · Just to add to the mix, here is my setup… Cable Modem for Internet access – Apple Airport Extreme as my main router and 1st floor wireless – Apple Airport Express as my second floor wireless connected as a wired connection via a Netgear MOCA (multimedia over coax). There is another MOCA unit at the Extreme. Bridge mode on the Extreme will not support what your trying to do. I don't know if AIrport Extreme supports Extender or any Repeater modes. Something to ask Apple about. I would focus on the Orbi, if your having problems with wifi, lets see if we can narrow down whats happening there first, then later on, see if you need an extender.
